Liam's Embrace

Liam watched Noah’s shoulders tremble, a low, choked sound escaping his throat. They lay tangled in Liam’s sheets, the aftermath of their most recent encounter still humming in the air, thick and sweet like overripe fruit. Noah’s head was buried in Liam’s chest, his breath coming in ragged gasps that tore at Liam’s heart. This wasn’t the usual post-coital haze of satisfaction; this was raw, unadulterated vulnerability, a storm brewing within his best friend. Liam’s fingers, which had been tracing lazy circles on Noah’s back, stilled. He’d seen Noah stressed, seen him frustrated, even seen him drunk and silly, but he’d never seen him like this – utterly undone.

“Hey,” Liam murmured, his voice a low rumble meant to soothe. He tilted Noah’s chin up gently, forcing him to meet his gaze. Noah’s eyes were red-rimmed, swimming with unshed tears and a confusion so profound it was almost palpable. “What’s going on, man?”

Noah swallowed hard, his gaze flickering away, unable to hold Liam’s steady, accepting look. “I… I don’t know,” he whispered, the words barely audible. “It’s just… all of this. You. Me. Us. It’s… it’s too much sometimes. I feel like I’m losing my mind.” He pulled away slightly, a desperate need for space warring with the instinct to cling. “I don’t understand what’s happening to me, Liam. Who I am.”
