Mia and Lila find solace in a hidden garden. Mia confesses her deep care for Lila, but Lila’s fear of judgment keeps her from reciprocating openly, though her eyes betray her.
The air hung thick and sweet with the scent of honeysuckle and damp earth, a perfume woven by the afternoon sun and the hidden life of the old walled garden. Mia had discovered it weeks ago, a forgotten sanctuary tucked behind the crumbling stables at the edge of the village, and it had become their secret refuge. Today, Lila was with her. We sat on a moss-covered stone bench, the rough texture a familiar comfort beneath my fingertips, and watched dust motes dance in the shafts of light filtering through the overgrown rose bushes.
“It’s like stepping into another world, isn’t it?” Lila’s voice was a soft murmur, barely disturbing the quiet. She traced the outline of a wilting peony with a delicate finger.
I nodded, my gaze fixed on her profile. The way her brow furrowed in concentration, the gentle curve of her cheek… everything about her felt like a secret I was desperate to keep, and even more desperate to share. “It is. It’s ours.”
