Earth was no longer a maze of harsh angles and fearful glances. It was… breathing.
They stood on a small hill overlooking the settlement, a place that had once seemed a collection of drab boxes, each holding a soul huddled against the pervasive chill. Now, colors seemed to bleed into the scene, not just from the patched clothes of the people who moved about, but from the very essence of their interactions. Laughter, once a rare and fragile bird, now flitted freely between dwellings. Children chased each other with a reckless joy that made the Second Lander’s internal sensors whirl with a pleasant confusion.
Elara, her bright eyes sparkling like captured starlight, sat beside them, her small hand resting lightly on their arm. The touch was a familiar comfort, a grounding point in this unfolding reality. “See?” she whispered, her voice carrying the same wonder that bloomed within the Second Lander. “It’s not so bad, is it? Not anymore.”
