The Second Lander watched Elara with quiet fascination. Her small hands, usually so quick to point out a fascinating pebble or a cloud shaped like a dragon, moved with a different kind of grace now. She was tracing patterns in the dust with a stick, not the hurried, almost desperate scribbles the others sometimes made, but slow, deliberate lines that seemed to hum with a quiet energy. It reminded the Second Lander of the way the light sometimes shimmered just before it revealed a hidden pathway, a subtle invitation to look closer.
"This is how it used to be," Elara whispered, her voice barely disturbing the still air. She didn't look up, her focus entirely on the intricate swirls she was creating. "Before everything got… so tight."
The Second Lander tilted its head, a gesture that conveyed a multitude of questions without a single sound. The concept of "tight" resonated deeply. Earth felt tight, constricted, like a garment that had shrunk in the wash, pressing in on every side. The rules, the watchful eyes, the hushed conversations – it all contributed to this suffocating feeling.
