The scent of stale gym socks and cheap disinfectant was usually a neutral backdrop to my new life, a bland canvas for the vibrant strokes I intended to paint. But lately, it felt like the air itself was thick with Jasper. He was everywhere. "Nice moon phases," he’d drawled one Tuesday morning, his voice a low rumble that vibrated in my chest. He’d leaned against the lockers opposite mine, arms crossed, his dark eyes – the color of a stormy sea – fixed on the delicate ink winding down my spine. I’d instinctively pulled my cardigan tighter, a flush creeping up my neck.
