The air in the library was thick with the scent of old paper and hushed whispers, a stark contrast to the storm that had been brewing inside me for days. Since that night, since the rain had plastered my hair to my face and his lips had claimed mine in a way that was both terrifying and… something else entirely, I’d been walking through a fog. Jasper. The name itself was a jolt, a tremor beneath the surface of my carefully constructed calm.

Chloe sat across from me, her brow furrowed as she nibbled on the end of her pen. "You've been quiet, Em. Like, really quiet. More quiet than usual when Jasper's around, which is saying something."

I managed a weak smile, pushing a stray strand of hair behind my ear. "Just thinking."
