Chapter 11
Possession's Price
Jasper revels in Emery’s yielding, interpreting her wavering resistance as a sign of her growing submission. His desire for her intensifies, morphing into a deeper sense of ownership. He sees her not as a victim, but as someone finally recognizing her place by his side. He believes he’s breaking her down to build her up, to mold her into what he desires. This perceived victory only strengthens his resolve to keep her, to ensure she understands that she is his, and his alone, no matter the cost to her spirit.
The air in my room felt heavy, thick with the scent of Jasper’s cologne, a potent mix of sandalwood and something musky that clung to the sheets. Every breath I took was a reminder of the night before, a confusing tapestry of fear and a strange, unsettling pull. He’d been so… dominant. So sure of himself. And I, for all my supposed fire, had melted under his gaze, my protests fading into whimpers. It wasn't just the physical surrender, though that had been overwhelming enough. It was the way he’d looked at me afterward, a triumphant glint in his eyes, as if he’d finally claimed a prize he’d been hunting for an eternity.
He saw it as a victory, I knew. Possession. He’d finally broken through my defenses, and now he believed he owned every part of me. He’d whispered it in my ear, his voice a low rumble against my skin, "You're mine now, Emery. Finally mine." And a part of me, the part that was terrified and confused, had almost believed him. He saw my yielding as submission, my confusion as acceptance. He thought he was molding me, shaping me into the woman he wanted, the woman he believed I was meant to be.
I traced the delicate curve of the moon phases tattooed down my spine, a faint shiver running through me. This was my body, my canvas, and yet, lately, it felt like it belonged to someone else. Jasper’s touch had been possessive, his kisses demanding, and in the haze of it all, I hadn't fought back as hard as I should have. The memory of his strong hands on my hips, pulling me closer, was still imprinted on my skin. He’d seen the way my breath hitched, the way my body responded despite my frantic mental protests. And he'd taken it as confirmation.
