Chapter 10
A Dangerous Dance
Emery is caught in a confusing emotional whirlwind. She recoils from Jasper’s intensity, terrified of the power he wields and the way he seems to consume her thoughts. Yet, she can’t deny the magnetic pull he exerts, the unsettling fascination she feels towards his raw, untamed nature. Their interactions become a dangerous dance, a push and pull between fear and an undeniable, burgeoning attraction. Emery struggles to reconcile the bully she knows with the glimpses of something deeper, something that both frightens and intrigues her.

I forced a smile, trying to recapture the easygoing facade I usually wore like a second skin. “I’m fine, Chlo. Just… a little surprised.” It was a pathetic understatement. Surprised was like calling a hurricane a light breeze. I felt like a startled deer, caught in the blinding headlights of something I couldn’t comprehend, something that was both terrifying and, if I was being brutally honest with myself, undeniably captivating.
