Each inhale was a victory, each exhale a surrender to the unknown. He’d spent what felt like an eternity in this void, the rough texture of the floor beneath his bare feet the only tactile anchor in a world stripped of sight. Then, the rustle. Soon, his lap was a mosaic of these squares, each a silent testament to a life, a moment, frozen in time.
The disembodied voice, a chillingly calm monotone, had returned, its spectral presence more unnerving than any physical threat. “The names and dates are not mere labels, Elias. They are threads. Each one a potential anchor to the truth you seek.”
