The rough fabric of the blindfold chafed Elias’s temples, a constant, tangible reminder of his sensory deprivation. Each breath he took, shallow and tight in his chest, felt like a struggle against an unseen force. He’d spent hours, or perhaps mere minutes – time had become a fluid, unreliable thing in this suffocating darkness – cataloging the sounds: the low hum of the room’s ventilation, the distant, almost imperceptible thrum of traffic, and, most unnervingly, the soft, brittle crackle of Polaroid film being handled.

He’d been meticulous in his initial exploration, his hands a surrogate for his eyes. The smooth, cool walls, the unyielding floor, the faint scent of dust and something vaguely metallic. He’d run his trembling fingers over them, a desperate attempt to glean some familiarity, some spark of recognition. But there was nothing. Just a parade of unknown faces, each a tiny, silent accusation.

The Voice, that disembodied entity that had first shattered his disorientation with its chilling pronouncements, had been silent for a stretch. This silence, however, was more unnerving than its commands. It allowed his own thoughts to fester, to spiral. He’d been told he had a limited time, a temporal vise tightening around his fragile sanity. But the exact duration remained a mystery, another layer to the psychological torment.
