Chapter 4
A Brighter Star
Lily and Mom work together, using the tinsel and ribbons to mend the star. They place the newly decorated, even sparklier star on the tree. It looks absolutely magical, better than before!
My heart was doing a little drum solo against my ribs. Thump-thump-thump! It was Christmas Eve, the most magical night of the entire year, and I could barely keep my eyes open. Snowflakes, fat and fluffy like cotton balls, were dancing outside the window, and I imagined them blanketing the world in a soft, white hug. Presents! I pictured them all wrapped in shiny paper, piled high under the tree, just waiting for me to unwrap them. But Mom said there was still one very important thing to do before Santa’s sleigh bells would jingle: help her get the tree ready.
“Lily-bug,” Mom’s voice was a warm whisper from the doorway, “time to get our tree into its sparkly best outfit.”
I bounced out of bed, my pajamas swishing around my ankles. “I’m ready, Mom! I’m going to make it the sparkliest tree ever for Santa!”
