Chapter 18
A Sorcerer's Defeat
In a fierce magical duel, Samantha's courage and the Sunstone's light overwhelm Malakor, breaking his hold over the corrupted magic.
The air crackled, not with the usual hum of life that pulsed through Samantha’s veins, but with a raw, destructive energy. Before her, Malakor’s form shimmered, a vortex of shadow and malevolence, his twisted staff a conduit for the corrupted magic that bled from the heart of the Whispering Woods. The trees around them recoiled, their leaves brittle and grey, their ancient spirits groaning in agony. Samantha felt their pain as if it were her own, a searing ache that threatened to consume her. In her hands, the Sunstone pulsed, its light a defiant beacon against the encroaching darkness, but even its warmth seemed to falter under the sheer weight of Malakor’s power.
“You are but a child, playing with forces you cannot comprehend,” Malakor sneered, his voice a rasping echo that seemed to scrape against the very fabric of reality. He raised his staff, and a wave of sickly green energy surged towards Samantha.
Instinct took over. Samantha didn’t think; she acted. Clutching the Sunstone tighter, she channeled the raw energy that now flowed through her, an inheritance from generations she’d never known. The light from the stone flared, meeting Malakor’s attack head-on. The impact sent tremors through the ground, and Samantha staggered back, her arms burning. The Sunstone’s light, however, didn’t break. It held, a shimmering shield against the sorcerer’s fury.
