A New Beginning

The afternoon sun, mellow and golden, spilled through the open windows of Samantha’s living room, painting stripes of light across the worn rug. Dust motes danced in the beams, tiny, ephemeral stars in the quiet air. It had been weeks since the dam of their shared history had finally broken, weeks since the hushed confessions and the carefully guarded truths had unfurled between them.
