The old oak tree, its branches like gnarled fingers reaching for the sky, stood sentinel over a patch of overgrown land at the edge of town. It was a place forgotten by most, a whisper of a memory for those who had once known its wild charm. Samantha felt a tug, a faint echo from childhood, when Gregory mentioned it. "The secret garden," he’d called it, his voice tinged with a wistfulness that mirrored her own.
They stood now before a crumbling stone wall, partially hidden by a curtain of ivy. The air here felt different, thicker, imbued with the scent of damp earth and the ghosts of blooming flowers. Sunlight dappled through the leaves, painting shifting patterns on the moss-covered stones. It was smaller than Samantha remembered, yet the sense of enclosure, of a world apart, remained.
"Do you think it's still… here?" Samantha’s voice was soft, hesitant. The years had a way of eroding even the most cherished places.
