Using his resourcefulness and perhaps a touch of the woods' magic, Sam crafts a remarkable spinning top. It's unlike anything the sprites have seen, sure to provide endless amusement.

Sam’s hands, usually calloused from mending fences and tending the small garden, felt clumsy and uncertain as he picked up the fallen branch. It was smooth, almost polished by the unseen currents of the Whispering Woods, and hummed with a faint, almost imperceptible energy. The hermit’s words echoed in his mind: “A toy that spins, a toy that gleams, a toy to capture sprite dreams.” He didn’t understand the magic the old man spoke of, but he understood Pip. He understood the desperate ache in his own chest, the gaping hole where his youngest son’s laughter should be. He would do anything, anything at all, to bring Pip home.

He found a relatively clear space beneath the sprawling branches of an ancient oak, its bark etched with patterns that seemed to shift and swirl with the dappled sunlight. The air here was cooler, tinged with the scent of damp earth and something vaguely sweet, like forgotten honey. He laid the branch on the mossy ground, his gaze sweeping over it, searching for a starting point.

His mind, usually so adept at practical matters, felt muddled by the strangeness of it all. He’d never been one for crafting toys. His sons had always been content with sticks for swords and stones for marbles. But the sprites, with their fleeting attention and insatiable need for amusement, demanded something more. Something… special.
