The brine has a memory, you see. It remembers the splintered wood, the desperate prayers, the final, gasping breaths pulled from lungs that could hold no more. I have witnessed it all, from the first clumsy dugouts to the great iron behemoths that now cleave the waves. Among them was Elara, a young woman who had signed on as a cabin girl, her dreams of seeing distant lands now dissolving into a chilling reality.
