The city thrummed with its usual Saturday night rhythm, a symphony of distant sirens, muffled laughter, and the low hum of traffic. Zoid, sans Luke for the first time in what felt like ages, found herself adrift in the familiar currents of a downtown bar. The air was thick with the scent of cheap perfume and spilled beer, a comforting, if slightly melancholy, blanket. She nursed a drink, her blue hair a vibrant splash against the dim lighting, her oversized tee a familiar shield. It wasn't that she didn't love Luke, or their quiet mornings and whispered 'I love yous.' It was just… sometimes, the old habits, the old impulses, tugged at her.

A flash of color caught her eye. Across the crowded room, a woman with hair like a wildfire – a riot of crimson curls that spilled down her shoulders – was laughing, her head thrown back. Her eyes, a startling, crystalline blue, met Zoid's, and a jolt, unexpected and electric, shot through her. The woman, sensing the gaze, offered a slow, knowing smile, a challenge and an invitation all in one.

Zoid’s heart gave a peculiar lurch. This was different. This was… a different kind of pull. The woman, who Zoid would soon learn was named Star, navigated the throng with a fluid grace, her presence commanding attention without demanding it. She stopped at Zoid's table, her smile widening.
