The morning sun, a gentle caress through the blinds, found Zoid still nestled deep in the warm hollow of Luke’s chest. The lingering scent of their shared night, a potent mix of Luke’s clean musk and Zoid’s own sweet perfume, hung heavy in the air. Zoid’s fingers, usually restless, were curled possessively around Luke’s arm, a silent declaration of their need to be tethered. Even the slight shift in Luke’s breathing as he stirred sent a ripple of anxiety through Zoid. The thought of him moving away, even just to stretch, felt like a threat.

Luke’s eyelids fluttered open, revealing those familiar emerald depths. He blinked, a slow, sleepy acknowledgment of the world, his gaze softening as it met Zoid’s wide, anxious eyes. A small smile tugged at his lips. “Morning, sunshine,” he murmured, his voice raspy with sleep. He shifted slightly, and Zoid’s grip tightened instinctively, a tiny, almost imperceptible whimper escaping their lips.

Luke paused, his body still, and gently stroked Zoid’s blue hair. “Hey,” he said softly, his thumb tracing the line of their jaw. “What’s wrong?”
