The air in the ancient ruins hung thick and still, a silence so profound it felt like a presence in itself. Ryy, her heart a nervous drum against her ribs, moved deeper into the crumbling stone structures, the whispers of the desert now a hushed, expectant murmur around her. They weren't the desperate pleas of the oasis this time, but something older, more deliberate, like the rustling of dry leaves in a forgotten tomb. She felt Kael’s gaze on her, a mixture of apprehension and a fierce, protective loyalty, but his usual boisterous skepticism was silenced by the sheer weight of this place.

The ruins were a labyrinth of weathered stone, carved with symbols Ryy had only seen in the oldest scrolls Elder Maeve kept hidden away. The whispers, which had been a chaotic symphony of fear and urgency, now coalesced into a single, resonant hum, a low vibration that seemed to emanate from the very stones.

She paused before an archway, its keystone carved into the likeness of a creature with the body of a serpent and the head of a hawk. The whispers intensified here, swirling around her like a gust of wind, yet carrying no sound. It was a feeling, a knowing, that settled into her bones. *“Seek,”* they seemed to say, *“Understand.”*
