Russo’s nose twitched, a tiny tremor that vibrated all the way to his tail. From his vantage point atop Amy’s picnic basket, which he’d scaled with the practiced ease of a seasoned mountaineer (or, you know, a very determined Chiweenie), he could see them. A veritable feast lay spread out before him, a landscape of temptation just begging to be explored.

There were plump, glistening sandwiches, their crusts a delightful golden brown. Beside them, a bowl overflowed with vibrant red strawberries, each one a tiny, jewel-like beacon. And then, the pièce de résistance: a bag of crunchy, salty pretzels, their twisted forms practically winking at him. His ‘mountain goat’ instincts, always humming just beneath the surface, roared to life. This was not just a picnic; this was Everest, and he, Russo, was its intrepid explorer.

Amy was busy explaining the intricacies of bird migration to Rex, her voice a gentle murmur against the rustling leaves. Baby Blue Bears, bless his fluffy heart, was attempting to nap in a patch of sunlight, his snores a soft, rhythmic rumble. They were distracted. Oh, so blissfully, wonderfully distracted. This was his chance.
