Mail Carrier Mayhem
The mail carrier arrives at their temporary lodging. Russo, mistaking the mailbag for a new chew toy, causes a comical scene, scattering letters and bills everywhere. The mail carrier is used to this.
The scent of adventure had barely had a chance to settle in the air before it was rudely interrupted by the unmistakable jingle of the mail carrier’s bicycle. Russo, who had been practicing his most majestic mountain goat pose atop a particularly sturdy ottoman, perked up his ears. His tail, usually a frantic metronome of excitement, began to wag with a more focused, predatory intensity. The mail carrier. The bringer of papery treasures.
Amy and Rex, still wrestling with their hiking boots and a map that seemed to have a mind of its own, sighed in unison. They knew what was coming. Russo, the tiny dynamo with an insatiable appetite for anything that crinkled, had a special relationship with the postal service. It wasn't one of admiration for the timely delivery of important documents, but rather a deep, primal urge to consume them.
The mail carrier, a stout woman named Brenda with a perpetually amused twinkle in her eye, dismounted her trusty bicycle with practiced ease. She clutched the familiar canvas mailbag, its contents a tempting array of envelopes, postcards, and the occasional glossy flyer. Brenda had seen Russo’s antics before. In fact, she’d come to expect them. Her initial bewilderment had long since given way to a sort of grudging respect for the sheer audacity of the little dog.
