A Feast Fit for a Hero
After the storm, they share their remaining food. Russo, the unexpected hero, is given the choicest morsels. He eats them with the satisfaction of a true adventurer.
The rain had finally ceased its drumming, leaving behind a world washed clean and sparkling. A hushed stillness settled over the small clearing where Amy Kathryn, Rex, and their two canine companions huddled, their faces etched with a mixture of relief and weariness. The storm had been a fierce one, a symphony of wind and water that had tested their resolve and their meager provisions.
Amy Kathryn carefully rummaged through their dwindling supplies. A few sad-looking crackers, some half-eaten jerky, and a smattering of dog biscuits were all that remained. "Well," she sighed, her voice raspy, "it looks like we'll be dining on the finest crumbs tonight."
Rex, ever the pragmatist, nodded grimly. "We made it through, though. That's the main thing." He glanced at Russo, who was currently attempting to scale a damp moss-covered rock, his tiny legs scrambling with surprising tenacity. "And I suppose someone's still got plenty of energy."
