The air in the Crimson Peaks was thick with a tension that mirrored the roiling clouds gathering on Xylos’s horizon. Ignis, leader of the Ruby Red Dragons, stood with her claws dug deep into the scorched earth, her scales radiating an inner heat that seemed to mock the encroaching chill. Her gaze, sharp as obsidian, swept across the desolate landscape towards the shimmering azure plains where Aqua’s clan dwelled, and then further still to the verdant, sprawling forests ruled by Terra. For centuries, these three great clans had coexisted, a fragile peace maintained by ancient treaties and a shared understanding of their mutual vulnerability. But that peace was fraying, stretched thin by the erratic pulses of cosmic energy that now thrummed through Xylos, unsettling the very core of their beings.

She landed with a grace that belied her immense power, her sapphire scales catching the dim light like scattered jewels. Aqua’s eyes, the colour of the deepest ocean trenches, surveyed Ignis with a dispassionate calm that Ignis found both infuriating and, she grudgingly admitted, admirable.
