“Your ambition is a predictable, tiresome thing, Silas,” Valerius’s voice was a low growl, each syllable laced with an authority that vibrated through the stone floor. “You mistake a thirst for power with the strength to wield it.”
Silas merely chuckled, a sound that scraped against my nerves. “And you mistake sentiment for strength, Your Highness. The people grow weary of shadows. They crave a sun that *shines*, not one that merely glints off the edges of forgotten tombs.”
