Chapter 18
Chapter 18: The Quiet After
Aria, Min-hyuk, and their allies settle into the safehouse. Tensions ease as Leo recovers, and Aria and Min-hyuk share a quiet, romantic moment on the rooftop at dawn, confessing their fears and hopes. The chapter ends with a new arrival—a messenger from the Emperor—delivering an ominous letter that threatens to unravel their fragile peace.
The safehouse smelled like dust and old paper. Aria stood at the window, watching the street, her reflection a ghost in the glass. Behind her, the others moved in slow motion—Soo-jin checking on Leo, Jae-won pacing, Min-hyuk leaning against the kitchen counter with a cup of cold tea.
“We can’t stay here long,” Jae-won said, breaking the silence. He ran a hand through his hair, his usual composure frayed. “The Emperor’s men will sweep every district. It’s only a matter of time.”
“Then we move at nightfall,” Soo-jin replied. She sat on the arm of the couch, her eyes on Leo, who was curled under a blanket in the corner. “He needs rest. Real rest.”
