The air in the royal chambers, usually thick with the scent of beeswax and polished wood, now carried an unsettling undertone, a faint whisper of ozone and something akin to damp earth after a storm. Queen Cassandra, often a figure of quiet contemplation, moved with a restless energy that belied her usual serene demeanor. Princess Nevera watched her mother, a knot of unease tightening in her stomach. The recent events, the unsettling omens, the whispers of the Rainbow Goddess – they had all cast a long shadow, and even the familiar comfort of her mother’s presence felt strained.

“Mother,” Nevera began, her voice softer than she intended, “are you… alright?”

Cassandra turned, her eyes, the deep, rich brown of fertile soil, held a flicker of something ancient and vast. It wasn't the usual warmth Nevera knew. It was a gaze that seemed to penetrate not just her daughter, but the very fabric of the stone walls around them. “Alright, Nevera,” she echoed, the words carrying a strange resonance, as if spoken from a great distance. “The world is in flux. And flux, my dear, is rarely comfortable.”
