A tremor, unlike any Nevera had ever felt, rippled through the stone floors of her chambers. It wasn't the earth-shattering quake of a natural disaster, but a subtle, internal vibration, a hum that resonated deep within her bones. Sunlight, usually a gentle caress through the stained-glass windows, seemed to warp and splinter, casting fractured rainbows across the opulent furnishings. Outside, the usual symphony of the Royal Academy – the distant clang of practice swords, the murmur of students, the chirping of birds – had dissolved into an unsettling silence, punctuated only by the unnatural crackle of the air.
She rose from her bed, a knot of unease tightening in her stomach. For days, a strange energy had been building, a palpable tension that set her teeth on edge. The elemental surges, as Master Eldrin had called them, had become more frequent, more violent. A sudden blizzard had engulfed the southern gardens yesterday, only to vanish an hour later, leaving behind a verdant bloom of flowers that defied the season. Today, the air itself felt charged, alive with an unseen force.
Her gaze fell upon a small, intricately carved wooden box resting on her vanity. It was a gift from her mother, Queen Cassandra, given to her on her sixteenth birthday, a trinket she had rarely touched, feeling an inexplicable aversion to it. Now, as the tremors intensified, a faint, ethereal glow emanated from within. Curiosity, a trait her father, King Theron, often chided her for, tugged at her. Hesitantly, she reached for the box.
