Chapter 16
The King's Gambit
King Theron makes a desperate move to seize control, revealing his true manipulative nature and his willingness to sacrifice anything to maintain his power.
The air in the throne room had grown thick, heavy with unspoken accusations and the cloying scent of fear. King Theron, his usual regal composure frayed at the edges, paced before the obsidian throne, his footsteps echoing like a death knell. Nevera met his gaze, her own eyes, pools of sapphire, reflecting a newfound, steely resolve. “Protect me, Father? Or control me? Control the prophecy? Master Eldrin has revealed truths you have kept hidden for years. Truths about the Goddess, about my own blood, about the very fabric of our world.”
