The air thrummed with a silence that was not empty, but pregnant with the unspoken. Robin stood at the precipice of his decision, the weight of two worlds pressing down upon his weary shoulders. Before him, the portal shimmered, a swirling vortex of emerald and obsidian, a gateway between the familiar grit of war and the ethereal beauty of this alien realm. Behind him, the encroaching tendrils of the Shadow Weaver pulsed, a tangible threat that had bled from the void and threatened to consume all.

Elara’s gaze, ancient and knowing, met his. Her words, usually cloaked in riddles, were now starkly clear. “The threads are woven, Robin Pimblett. Pull one, and the other unravels.” She gestured towards the swirling portal. “Your world… it calls to you. A phantom echo of what was, a comfort in its known despair.” Her voice softened, a rare tremor of something akin to sorrow touching its depths. “But here, the light falters. The Weaver’s hunger grows. Your strength, the spark you carry, is the last ember against the encroaching night.”

Robin’s hand instinctively went to the tattered remnants of his uniform, the rough wool a stark contrast to the silken breeze that caressed his skin. He saw Sergeant Miller’s gruff face, heard the distant rumble of artillery, felt the phantom ache of a wound that had long since healed, or perhaps, never truly existed here. Home. The word was a siren song, a desperate yearning for the muddy fields of France, the camaraderie of his regiment, the simple, brutal reality of survival he understood.
