The air in Sherwood Forest was thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, a perfume that clung to the reporter’s clothes and hair. Sunlight, fractured by the dense canopy, dappled the forest floor in shifting patterns of gold and shadow, making the path ahead seem both inviting and treacherous. She clutched her worn notebook tighter, her fingers tracing the faint, almost invisible symbols etched into the bark of an ancient oak. These were the cryptic clues, the breadcrumbs left by the elusive Green Man, the whispered name the villagers used for Robin Hood.

It was a silence that felt watchful, as if the trees themselves held their breath, observing her progress. She was a stranger here, an outsider, and the forest, like its protector, seemed to regard her with a cautious, discerning eye.
