The train chugged its way through the rolling green hills of Nottinghamshire, each click of the wheels a gentle lullaby against the backdrop of a setting sun. Elara, her notebook clutched tight in her hand, pressed her forehead against the cool glass of the window, watching the landscape blur into streaks of emerald and gold. The air, even through the sealed pane, felt different here, carrying whispers of ancient forests and forgotten tales. She’d come seeking a story, a legend, but a part of her, a quiet, hopeful part, suspected she might find something more.

Nottinghamshire. The very name conjured images of shadowed woods, of rustling leaves and hushed secrets. And at the heart of those secrets, a name that echoed in the pubs, in the marketplaces, and in the hushed conversations of the villagers: Robin Hood. A phantom, a myth, a thief who dared to defy the iron fist of the wealthy lords and, so the stories went, gave back to those who had nothing. Elara, a reporter whose heart beat for the stories that truly mattered, the ones that hummed with the pulse of ordinary lives, felt an undeniable pull.

Her editor had been skeptical, of course. "Robin Hood, Elara? Really? That’s a fairy tale, not a front-page story." But Elara had persisted, her voice firm with conviction. The train finally shuddered to a halt at a small, bustling station. Elara gathered her satchel, her heart thrumming with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. The platform was alive with the sounds of people, their voices a tapestry of accents and dialects she hadn't heard before. She stepped down onto the cobblestones, the crisp autumn air biting at her cheeks, carrying the scent of damp earth and woodsmoke. Nottingham.

Her first stop was a small, crowded inn, its sign depicting a rather plump, red-faced lion. The air inside was thick with the aroma of ale and roasting meat, and the murmur of conversation filled the space like a warm blanket. Elara found a quiet corner table, ordered a tankard of ale, and began to listen.

The talk was varied – the weather, the harvest, the latest gossip. But Elara’s ears were tuned to a different frequency. She waited, patiently, for the whispers to emerge. And soon, they did.

"…heard old Man Hemlock’s been taxed again," a gruff voice rumbled from a nearby table. "Taxed on the very air he breathes
