Elara’s sanctuary was a cavern carved from the city’s forgotten bones, a place where the thrum of traffic above became a distant, muffled heartbeat. Leo sat on a smooth, water-worn stone, his usual fidgeting stilled, a profound sense of anticipation settling over him. Elara, her eyes like pools reflecting the faint, bioluminescent moss clinging to the walls, began to speak, her voice a soft counterpoint to the ambient resonance.
“You feel it, don’t you, Leo?” she asked, her gaze steady. “The language. It’s more than just sound. It’s memory. It’s survival.”
