Silas adjusted the knot of his tie, the silk a cool, almost predatory whisper against his throat. The city’s thrum, usually a distant murmur he barely registered, had begun to coalesce into something more insistent, something he couldn’t quite place. He’d been brought in on a new initiative, a venture into “niche cultural markets,” and his preliminary research had led him to the fringe, to the places where the city’s pulse beat loudest and most raw. He’d heard whispers, seen fleeting online traces, of a sound that was… different. Unmanufactured. Alive.

His office, a sterile expanse of chrome and glass overlooking the dazzling, indifferent cityscape, felt miles away from the grimy basements and hidden alcoves where this music seemed to bloom. He’d dispatched a few of his more discreet scouts, armed with sophisticated recording equipment and a healthy dose of cynicism, to various venues that were rumored to host these clandestine gatherings. The reports that trickled back were intriguing, filled with descriptions of sonic textures that defied easy categorization, of rhythms that seemed to shift and breathe with an organic intelligence.

“They call it ‘rhythm language’,” his lead scout, a sharp-eyed woman named Anya, had reported, her voice tinged with a bewildered curiosity. “It’s not just music, sir. They… communicate. With it. It’s like a dialect, but made of beats and silences.”
