Chapter 8: The Watcher's Warning
The watcher reveals he was Viktor's partner and warns that the box contains a dangerous scientific discovery. Eliza opens the box anyway, finding a journal and a strange device. The watcher explains it could disrupt the town's energy, but Viktor hid it to protect everyone. A low hum begins from the device, and the watcher urges them to leave before it's too late.
The night air grew still as the watcher took another step forward. The moonlight carved his face into sharp angles—ordinary, tired, but his eyes held a strange light that made Eliza's skin prickle.
"I said, I wouldn't open that if I were you," he repeated, his voice calm but edged with something like fear.
Mr. Griggs stepped in front of Eliza. "Who are you? And why have you been following us?"
