Eliza, Ms. Petrova, and Professor Finch meet at the theatre the next morning to decode Viktor's journal. The binary message reveals a new location: the old clock tower in the town square, and a warning that the key must be used before the next full moon. As they leave, they notice the mysterious watcher following them. Eliza decides they must act quickly, and the chapter ends with them planning to visit the clock tower that night.
The morning sun did little to lift the shadows that clung to the edges of the town. Eliza arrived at the Pantomime Theatre just as Ms. Petrova was unlocking the heavy front door. Her hands were steady, but her eyes held a tiredness that spoke of a sleepless night.
“Good morning, Eliza,” she said softly. “Professor Finch is already inside. He brought his decoding books.”
They walked through the dim lobby, past the old posters and the silent ticket booth. The theatre smelled of dust and old velvet, and the air was cool and still. Professor Finch sat at a small table on the stage, surrounded by papers and a lantern. Viktor’s journal lay open before him.
