Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Eliza, Ms. Petrova, and Professor Finch follow Viktor's clue to Bellman's Hill on the full moon night. At the abandoned windmill, they use the brass disc to cast a shadow that reveals a hidden compartment containing a coded journal and a key. The chapter ends with a mysterious figure watching them from the shadows.
The brass disc was warm in Eliza’s hands as they stepped out of the observatory into the silver moonlight. The full moon hung low and bright, casting long shadows across the cobblestones. Mr. Griggs stood in the doorway, his lantern flickering. “Are you sure you want to go now?” he asked. “Bellman’s Hill is a lonely place after dark. The old windmill has stood empty for years, and the road up is overgrown.”
Professor Finch adjusted his spectacles. “Viktor said ‘on the next clear night.’ This is the next clear night. If we wait, we might miss the alignment.”
Ms. Petrova pulled her shawl tighter. “I know the way. Viktor and I used to walk there when the moon was full. He said the hill had a special energy.” She smiled softly, but her eyes held a flicker of sadness—or perhaps fear.
