Lina, Jonas, and Eliza arrive at a hidden village protected by a ring of ancient stones. They meet a woman named Deakonė who explains that the signal feeds on adolescent fear and nightmares, and the village has been a sanctuary for children like Jonas. Jonas's dreams are revealed as a gift—a connection to the moon's protective power. They are given shelter, but Deakonė warns that the wolves are growing stronger and the ring is weakening.
The village appeared like a mirage in the late afternoon haze. First just a smudge of gray against the green, then a cluster of roofs, then the outline of a stone wall. I stopped walking. Eliza stirred on my back, and Jonas bumped into me from behind.
"Is that it?" he asked.
I nodded. My throat was too dry for words.
