Leaving the Wedding Behind
As the wedding celebrations wind down, Andrez and Ray leave hand-in-hand, ready to face the world as a couple once more.
The last strains of music faded, leaving a comfortable hum of conversation in their wake. Fairy lights, strung between ancient oaks, cast a warm, dappled glow over the lingering guests. Andrez felt a gentle squeeze on her hand, a silent anchor in the slowly dissolving magic of the evening. Ray’s thumb traced lazy circles on her skin, a gesture so familiar, so right, it sent a shiver of pure contentment through her.
Around them, the wedding party was beginning to disperse. Chloe, radiant in a sapphire dress, waved a cheerful goodbye from across the lawn, her smile wide and knowing. Mark, the groom, clapped Ray on the shoulder, his face flushed with happiness and a touch of celebratory champagne. “You two,” Mark slurred good-naturedly, his eyes twinkling, “always were the ones. Glad to see it, truly glad.”
Andrez’s cheeks warmed under his gaze. It had been a long time since she’d felt this seen, this… understood. Fifteen years had been a chasm, a vast expanse of separate lives and experiences, but standing here, hand in hand with Ray, it felt as though the chasm had narrowed to a mere step.
