Danguole wakes to a message from Giedrė in Kaunas, then attends the council meeting with Simona Petraitytė. The council approves the city-wide initiative, but Simona reveals a new request: to present a regional plan due to interest from neighboring municipalities. Danguole grapples with the scaling challenge and ends the chapter resolved to trust her team.
The morning light slipped through the curtains, pale and tentative, as if it too was unsure of the day ahead. I lay in bed for a moment, staring at the ceiling, the weight of Thursday pressing down on my chest. The council meeting was in five hours. I had prepared, rehearsed, and revised until the numbers felt like second nature, but the knot in my stomach remained.
I reached for my phone on the nightstand. A notification from an unknown number glowed on the screen. I opened it, expecting a spam message, but instead found a reply from Giedrė, the community organizer from Kaunas.
"Thank you for your willingness to talk. I'm available anytime next week. Let me know what works best. I've already shared your proposal with our local coalition, and they are very interested."
