The next morning, I arrived at the municipal building with a folder of notes and a nervous flutter in my chest. The lobby smelled of old wood and floor polish, and the receptionist directed me to a conference room on the third floor. Simona Petraitytė was already there, seated at a long table with a coffee cup and a stack of documents.
"Danguole, good morning. Please, sit."
I took a seat across from her, placing my folder on the table. The room was quiet, save for the hum of the air conditioning. A projector screen hung on the wall, blank and waiting.
