Chapter 10
The Shifting Landscape
The battle with the entities leaves Liam irrevocably changed. The lines between reality and illusion blur, and the knowledge he's gained reshapes his perception of the world and his place within it.
The hum of the fluorescent lights in his tiny apartment was a familiar, oppressive drone, a constant reminder of the world Liam inhabited when the pills weren’t singing their siren song. He closed his eyes, trying to recapture the feeling of that battle, the surge of adrenaline, the desperate clarity that had accompanied his every move. He remembered the raw, agonizing realization that their purpose wasn’t malice, not as humans defined it. It was something colder, something that viewed humanity as a blight, an anomaly to be corrected. And he, Liam, had stood in their path.
