Zoe, the school's most powerful student, consistently defends Randy. Her belief in him, despite his perceived weakness, is a beacon of light in his challenging school life.
The echoing footsteps of the other students were a constant, grating reminder of my otherness. Each clatter against the polished marble floors of the 90-story mansion, each burst of magical chatter that swirled around me like a phantom current, served to emphasize the void where my own power should have been. I was Randy, the magicless boy, the seventh hundredth student in a school brimming with seven hundred prodigies. My only inheritance was the weight of my grandmother’s dying words and a gnawing emptiness in my gut.
Today was no different. As I navigated the bustling corridor towards the training grounds, a familiar wave of sneers and whispers followed me. Katelyn, her fiery red hair practically crackling with her own self-importance, blocked my path, flanked by her usual gaggle of sycophants.
“Look, it’s the great Randy,” she sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. “Still haven’t conjured a single spark, have you? Maybe you’re better off sweeping the floors. At least then you’d be useful.”
