The last echoes of Lord Valerius’s defeat had faded, leaving behind a silence that was both profound and strangely peaceful. The air, so recently thick with the stench of dark magic and the clang of steel, now felt cleansed, washed clean by the dawn that was breaking over the colossal mansion. I stood on the highest parapet, the cool morning breeze tugging at my tunic, and watched as the sun painted the sky in hues of rose and gold. Below, the school buzzed with a new energy, a palpable sense of relief and, for the first time in my life, acceptance.
Zoe stood beside me, her usual fierce composure softened by a rare, gentle smile. Her eyes, the color of a stormy sea, held a warmth that mirrored the sunrise. “You did it, Randy,” she said, her voice barely a whisper, carrying no hint of her usual competitive spark, only genuine admiration. “You saved us all.”
I looked at my hands, calloused from countless hours of training, still faintly stained with the grime of battle. They were the same hands that had been mocked, the same hands that had been deemed useless in a world of magic. But those hands, wielding the Sword of Rana, had been enough. “We did it, Zoe,” I corrected, meeting her gaze. “I couldn’t have faced Valerius without you, without Finn and Fae, without Elara’s wisdom, and… without my grandmother’s faith.”
