Today, this space, so often a symbol of Mr. Sterling’s magnificent isolation, was transformed. Soft floral arrangements, spilling with creamy roses and delicate lilies, adorned every surface, their sweet perfume a counterpoint to the faint scent of old money and polished wood.

Elara stood before a mirror, a vision in ivory silk. The gown, simple yet exquisitely made, draped her like a second skin, its subtle elegance a perfect reflection of her own quiet grace. Her heart, usually a steady drumbeat, fluttered like a trapped bird against her ribs. It wasn't nerves, not entirely. It was the overwhelming, almost surreal reality of the moment. Mrs. Gable, her face softer than Elara had ever seen it, adjusted the delicate lace veil that framed Elara’s face.
