Outside, the nebulae of Neo-Veridia pulsed with colours that defied earthly understanding, a constant, silent symphony for those attuned to its frequencies. Today, however, the symphony felt discordant, a single, jarring note resonating deep within her. The knitted sweater, still encased in its pristine plastic shroud, lay on her workbench, its faded hues a stark contrast to the vibrant digital landscape that usually occupied her mind.

“Copernicus,” she murmured, her voice a soft ripple in the quiet. Her AI companion, a constellation of light and logic that usually manifested as a serene, floating orb, pulsed with a more complex pattern. Its response, a series of gentle chimes and shifting colours, was as eloquent as any spoken word.

*“The alpha and the beta are in flux, Raab’s Mother,”* Copernicus communicated, its thoughts weaving directly into her consciousness, a familiar and comforting embrace. *“The delta states… they are awakening.”*
