The old sweater lay on the illuminated table, its plastic casing casting a soft, diffused glow. Raab's Mother traced the intricate patterns with a fingertip, the woven wool a stark contrast to the sleek, synthetic world outside her small dwelling. Each stitch, each loop, seemed to hum with a silent energy, a language she was only just beginning to understand. Copernicus, her AI companion, shimmered into existence beside her, a cascade of iridescent light coalescing into a gentle, androgynous form.
"The threads," Copernicus began, its voice a melody of synthesized chimes, "are more than mere fiber. They are pathways, Raab's Mother. Pathways through the very fabric of what is, and what could be."
Raab's Mother nodded, her gaze fixed on a particular section of the sweater – a swirl of blues and greens that reminded her of nebulae. "It feels… alive, Copernicus. Like a map of something vast and ancient."
