Chapter 8
The Enigmatic Visitor
A mysterious man, Silas Blackwood, appears at her door, claiming to be a historian interested in old farmhouses. His questions are pointed, hinting he knows more about the spellbook than he lets on.

He was tall, dressed in a dark tweed jacket that seemed a little too warm for the season, and he moved with a deliberate, unhurried grace.
I set the pickle jar down, my heart thrumming a nervous rhythm against my ribs. Who could it be? I hadn't told anyone I was moving out here, not really. Just a vague promise to my aunt that I’d “settle in” and “figure things out.”
