The air in the farmhouse had always felt thick, heavy with the scent of dust and forgotten memories, but tonight it was charged, electric. It hummed with a tension that made the fine hairs on my arms stand on end, a sensation Max mirrored with a low rumble in his chest, his hackles raised as he stared intently at the doorway leading to the main hall. I clutched the Sundered Spellbook tighter, its worn leather cool against my trembling fingers. The pages, which had only days ago felt like ancient curiosities, now pulsed with a potent, restless energy.

Silas Blackwood. The name itself felt like a chill wind against my skin. He’d appeared like a phantom, a whisper of danger in the quiet solitude of my inherited farmhouse, his pronouncements about the spellbook a confusing mix of prophecy and veiled threat. Now, his shadow stretched long and distorted in the flickering lamplight, pooling at the threshold of the living room. He was no longer the enigmatic scholar offering cryptic advice; his eyes, sharp and hungry, fixed on the book in my hands.

“Give it to me, Elara,” he said, his voice smooth as polished obsidian, yet laced with an undeniable edge of command. He took a step forward, his dark coat seeming to absorb the meager light. “You don’t understand what you’re playing with. This power is not for the untrained, not for the… innocent.”
