Echoes of Home
I return to my dimension, forever altered. The journey's weight, the lessons learned, and the love I found are now etched into my being.
The familiar hum vibrated through my bones, a symphony of reality reasserting itself. It was a sound I’d craved, a melody that promised an end to the disorienting cacophony of the other dimension. The world around me shimmered, colors bleeding and reforming, the alien landscape dissolving like a bad dream. Then, with a jolt that felt like my very atoms were snapping back into place, I was here. Earth. My Earth.
I staggered, my knees buckling as the sheer relief threatened to drown me. My powers, which had felt like a tangled mess of frayed wires for so long, began to settle, to respond again with their accustomed obedience. The temporal flux that had been my constant companion, the erratic stutter in the flow of time, smoothed out. It was like breathing again after being submerged for too long.
But the relief was a fragile thing, a thin veneer over a churning sea of emotions. The weight of my journey pressed down on me, an invisible cloak woven from fear, rage, and a profound, aching sadness. I looked down at my hands, expecting to see the grime and the faint, shimmering residue of that other place, but they were clean, familiar. Yet, they felt different. They had done things, endured things, that were now irrevocably part of me.
