The air tasted like ozone and regret. One moment, I was soaring through the familiar skies of Neo-Veridian, the next, I was plummeting through a kaleidoscope of fractured light and warped sound. My powers, usually a symphony of controlled energy, sputtered like a dying ember. A guttural scream tore from my throat, a raw sound of panic and outrage. *What the heck? Where am I?* The question echoed in the chaos, a desperate plea lost in the maelstrom. Instinct took over. Time. I needed to freeze time. I reached out, my fingers trembling, and the world lurched to a halt around me. The fractured light solidified, the warped sound silenced. I hovered, suspended in a bizarre tableau, and willed myself downwards. My feet touched solid ground, not the polished chrome of my city, but something rough, gritty, and alien. Earth. The familiar designation, a desperate anchor in this sea of the unknown, but it felt wrong. This wasn’t my Earth.

The silence of my temporal stasis was deafening, a stark contrast to the cacophony that had preceded it. When I released my hold, the world rushed back in, a riot of alien sights and sounds. Towering structures, not of metal and glass, but of what looked like calcified bone and pulsating organic matter, scraped a sky the color of bruised plums. Strange, serpentine creatures with multiple limbs scuttled through the dimly lit streets, their movements jerky and unsettling. They glanced at me, their multifaceted eyes gleaming with a mixture of fear and aggression. My rage, a constant companion, simmered beneath the surface, fueled by this terrifying displacement. *Get me out of here!* The thought pulsed, a desperate demand aimed at the universe, at anyone who could hear.

A few of the beings, larger and more imposing than the rest, turned towards me. Their forms were vaguely humanoid, but their skin was a mottled grey, and their heads were elongated, almost featureless save for a single, luminous eye. They advanced, their movements deliberate, radiating an aura of menace. My powers flared in response, a protective shield of crackling energy forming around me. It was unstable, flickering erratically, a testament to the dimensional shift that had thrown my abilities into disarray. One of the beings lunged, its clawed hand reaching for me. I reacted, a burst of energy erupting from my palm, sending it staggering back. But the effort was too much. My vision swam, the world tilting precariously. The anger that had been my shield now felt like a lead weight, dragging me down. A wave of nausea washed over me, and the last thing I registered before darkness claimed me was the glint of those single, luminous eyes, watching my descent.
